Tenstrike - Donald Todroff, 79, died on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at Meadowland Elder Care Homes in Tenstrike.
Graveside services were held Monday, October 15, at Lone Oak Cemetery, Minnie Township, Beltrami County, near Fourtown, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Casket bearers included Dwight Johnson, Rodney Johnson, Mike Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Rodney Johnson Jr., and Tyler Johnson. Military honors were provided by the Grygla Color Guard.
Donald Orval Todroff was born on Jan. 4, 1933 to James and Julia (Mertz) Todroff in Malcolm. He grew up on the family farm near Fourtown. He attended the Fourtown School. Donald was drafted into the US Army in 1956. During his service, he served in Germany for 18 months. After his discharge from the Army, he returned home to farm with his dad and mother.
Donald served on the Minnie Township Board and was the Minnie Township Assessor. He cut pulp wood for Norman Gladen and other contractors. Don also worked for many years on the fire tower. His greatest hobby was deer hunting. He loved to go with his dad, brother and uncles.
In 2008, he left the farm due to illness, and moved to the Meadowland Care Home near Tenstrike.
Donald dedicated and gave his life helping and caring for his mother, dad, uncles, and other family members. He was a quiet man who listened to people carefully.
Donald is survived by his brother Jim (Blanche) Todroff and family, of Eldorado, Kan.; sister Catherine Johnson and family of Crookston; and many nieces and nephews, and a cousin Nancy Johnson of Fargo, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; three uncles, Tom, Jerry and Julius Mertz; an infant brother, Julius Todroff; and aunt and uncle, Zora and Pete Peterson.
