Thief River Falls - A kind and gentle soul, Jodi Larson, 40, of Thief River Falls, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 9, at The Seventh Day Adventist Church in Thief River Falls, with Pastor David Fish officiating. Interment was held at the Folden Cemetery in Newfolden.
Jodi Ellen Meekma Larson was born on May 7, 1972 in Karlstad, the beautiful daughter of Glenn and Joyce (Wery) Meekma. As a baby she was dedicated to the Lord at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Middle River. When Jodi became a young adult, she was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist Church by Pastor Dave.
Jodi attended kindergarten at Marshall County Central School in Newfolden. Her first grade through eighth grade education was spent at the Thief River Falls Adventist Church School. Jodi attended ninth grade through her senior year in high school at the Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, graduating in 1991.
Following high school Jodi attended Northland Community College in Thief River Falls. She graduated in 1993 with an AA Degree. During a tennis class at the college, Jodi met fellow student Brian Roger Larson. The two started dating and on Saturday, September 16, 1995 Jodi and Brian were united in marriage at Bethany Lutheran Church, in Thief River Falls. They made their home in Thief River Falls.
After college Jodi worked for the Digi-Key Corporation for three years. She also worked for Nelson Chiropractic, and held the Office Manager position at Northwestern Mutual Insurance, all in Thief River Falls. Last year Jodi proudly accepted the Executive Director position at the Thief River Falls Education Association. She enjoyed working with her fellow colleagues and was very excited to be part of the Education Association’s programs and vision for the future.
Jodi was very family oriented, spending much of her time out at her family’s farm, along with Brian. She loved horseback riding with her dad, planting and taking care of the flowers with her mom, and tending to the four gardens they took care of as a family.
Jodi was very happy every year at Christmas as it was her favorite holiday. She enjoyed everything about Christmas, but especially enjoyed the message of our Savior’s birth. Jodi was known as “Santa” by her niece, Victoria and her nephew, Mitchell. When asked where she wanted to spend Christmas, Victoria happily exclaimed, “Aunt Jodi’s because she knows how to have Christmas!” Jodi decorated her home with seven Christmas trees, and spent time making her parents’ home festive. Even the neighbors joined in on Jodi’s fun, decorating their houses to match her and Brian’s home.
Jodi’s favorite pastimes included just about anything outdoors including, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. She enjoyed collecting anything to do with pigs - which her mother would never let her have while growing up, and football - especially the Green Bay Packers. Baking and cooking was a big part of Jodi’s home. She and Brian loved to entertain family and friends for many occasions.
Jodi touched many lives. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to so many. She always looked for the good in everyone. Her big smile and bright blue eyes will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her husband, Brian of Thief River Falls; parents, Glenn and Joyce Meekma of Newfolden; brother, Glenn Jr. “Chip” (Gina) Meekma of Buchanan, Mich.; niece and nephew, Victoria Meekma and Mitchell Meekma; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Roger and Judy Larson of Strandquist; sister-in-law, Luann (David) Rux of Strandquist; brother-in-law, Jeremy (Erica) Larson of St. Hilaire; numerous special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and good friends.
