Thief River Falls - Clarice Rooker, 83, died on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.
??Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Ben Carlsen and Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Casket bearers included Steve Walker, Dan Walker, Gary Srnsky, Greg Srnsky, Ben Leonhardt, Richard Eckstein and Paul Zolondek. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Clarice Srnsky was born on Dec. 28, 1928 in Grygla, daughter of the late Frank and Ida (Sordahl) Srnsky. Clarice moved with her family to the St. Hilaire area at an early age, where she attended school. Following her education, she worked various jobs in the area. Clarice contracted TB in her 20s and spent a year in the hospital in Crookston.
Clarice was united in marriage to Elmer James Rooker on Oct. 3, 1959 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in the Rosewood area, where they farmed for many years. She worked at Challenger School in food service and worked seasonally for a turkey farmer.
Clarice loved to garden and take care of her flowers. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, was a 4H leader and was a member of the Viking Town and Country Garden Club, a member of the Rosewood Homemakers, the quilting group at Redeemer Lutheran, the Christian Women, and an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. She held many offices in the groups she was active in. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends, baking, knitting, sewing, gardening and putting together puzzles with her family.
Clarice is survived by two children, Janeen (Ted) LaFriniere of Bemidji, and James (Rebecca) Rooker of Elk River; six grandchildren Rachel, Andrea, Jeremy, Zachary, Trevor and Kyle; brothers and sisters Richard (Alice) Srnsky of Zimmerman, Jean (Al) Walker of Duluth, Jim (Pat) Srnsky of St. Hilaire, Jack (Cheryl) Srnsky of St. Hilaire, Darlene (Vernon) Rooker of Grand Forks, N.D., and Sharon (John) Bugge of St. Hilaire; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, on January 3, 2007; and her parents.
