Thief River Falls - Margaret Morken, 95, of Thief River Falls, died suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 29, on arrival at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 (today), at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Casketbearers include Margaret’s grandchildren, Eldon Quam, Allison Quam, Gary Quam, Selena Reed, Meredith Lhotka, Andrew Morken, Ryan Black and Travis Black. Honorary casketbearers include the Lull a While Homemakers Club. Interment will follow at St. Petri Cemetery, rural Grygla.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Margaret Julia Lillevold was born on Jan. 14, 1917, on the family farm in Lee Township, Beltrami County, to Torval Julian Lillevold and Thone Jonesdatter (Brattli) Lillevold. She was baptized on April 29, 1917, and confirmed on Aug. 14, 1932, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Grygla. She attended Grade School at District 107 School, which was one mile from the family home. On June 16, 1970, Margaret received her GED at the Roseau High School. It was very important for Margaret to get her high school diploma and her family was very proud of her achievement.
Margaret worked at the co-op store in Grygla in her younger years. During World War II, she was employed at North American airplane factory in Los Angeles, Calif.
On Oct. 21, 1945, Margaret was united in marriage to Allard B. Morken at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Grygla. They made their home on the Morken family farm. She was employed at Land O’ Lakes turkey plant for 18 years. She was a member of the Lull a While Homemakers Club for over 60 years. In 2007, Allard and Margaret received the Century Farm Award in Marshall County. She lived on the Morken farm until the fall of 2010, when she moved to Thief River Falls.
Margaret enjoyed gardening, but especially loved flowers. She and Allard loved to go ice fishing, spending days at a time at Lake of the Woods. Sewing was a pastime she enjoyed, making quilts for family and the church. Family and friends were very important to Margaret, always enjoying the time that was spent together. She traveled to Norway with her sisters Thea and Caroline, where they saw the birthplace of their mother. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Marilyn (Jim) Honsey of Stewartville, Allan (Mary) Morken of Grand Forks, N.D., Genelle Black of Thief River Falls; eight grandchildren, Eldon (Lisa) Quam, Allison (Andy Bloedorn) Quam, Gary Quam, Selena (Jason) Reed, Meredith (Matt) Lhotka, Andrew Morken, Ryan Black and Travis (Angie) Black; 13 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, Logan, Penelope, Claire, Ellen, Alexis, Isaac, Ruby, Grace, Courtney, Kade, and Kyler; sisters, Thea Anderson and Caroline Ritch; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Bev and Jan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Allard on April 30, 2010; sister Clara, and brothers Arne (in childhood), Torrance and Johnny Lillevold.
