Roseau - Rose Monsrud, 91, died on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at Oak Crest Senior Living.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 28 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseau. Interment was held at the Nannestad Cemetery in rural Badger. Memorials can be directed to the Nannestad Cemetery or the American Cancer Society.
Rose was born on June 2, 1921 in Roseau, to Charles Sluka and Mary (Shimpa). She grew up in the Badger area and graduated from Badger High School in 1940. She married Clayton Monsrud on March 31, 1941 and they lived in Stafford Township. They later moved to Nereson Township in 1946 and raised their 13 children and farmed small grains and livestock.
Rose was a friend to everyone. She was known throughout the area to many people as, “Grandma Rosie.” She enjoyed gardening, cooking for all her visitors, playing cards and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Clayton Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa., Raynold (Lorraine) Monsrud of Roseau, Caroline (Butch) Mix of Minneapolis, LaRayne Gjovik-Fuller (Richard) of Roseau, Louie Monsrud of Badger, JoAnn O’Hara of Roseau, Rose Ellen (Russ) Iverson of Middle River, Marlene Buley of Roseau, Dwight Monsrud of Crystal, N.D., Iva Deen Monsrud of Roseau, Lydel Monsrud of Reno, Nev., and Myron Monsrud of Roseau; 30 grandchildren, at least 48 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton on Sept. 23, 1997 (15 years ago to the date); son, Marlowe; and siblings, Henry, George, Charlie, Joey, Mollie, Lillian, Marie and John.
