Thief River Falls - Marilyn “Tiny” Jorstad, 74, died on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, N.D.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Sept. 14 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Ale Tulu and Rev. John Golv officiating. Casket bearers include Tiny’s sons, Steven, Roby Dale, Scott and Bradley. Honorary casketbearers include Tiny’s grandchildren, Tyson, Noah, Brady, Rileigh, Jacob, Nick, Justin, Ethan, Carrie, Delanie, Abbie and Josh; and great-granddaughter, Kaycee May. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, Sept. 13, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church.
Marilyn Grace Odegaard was born on April 25, 1938 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Morris and Gladys (Vigness) Odegaard. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Her father, Morris gave Marilyn the nickname of “Tiny” when she was very young, and that name stayed with her throughout her life.
Tiny attended Northrop Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956. She was active in band (clarinet), chorus, and drama. Following graduation, Tiny worked for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator. She later moved to Minneapolis and worked for Dayton’s Department Store.
On March 25, 1961, Tiny was united in marriage to Don Jorstad at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Four sons were born to this relationship, Steven, Roby Dale, Scott and Bradley. They made their home in Grand Forks, Williston and Grafton areas of North Dakota; returning to the Thief River Falls area in 1973. Tiny stayed at home raising their four children while they were growing. Her home was always open for her friends and her kid’s friends.
In 1989, Tiny found her niche working as a hostess at Hardees where she continued to work until her retirement. The customers of Hardees became an extension of her family. Tiny was very committed to her family, her friends, and her community. She enjoyed having coffee, rummaging, playing games and cards, and socializing.
Tiny was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
Survivors include four sons, Steven (Elaine) Jorstad of Fargo, N.D., Roby Dale (Jenifer) Jorstad of Ft. Campbell, Kent., Scott Jorstad of Thief River Falls, and Bradley (Traci) Jorstad of Maryville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Tyson, Noah, Brady, Rileigh, Jacob, Nick (fiancée, Andrea), Justin, Ethan, Carrie, Delanie, Abbie and Josh; great-granddaughter, Kaycee May; father of her children, Don Jorstad of Red Lake Falls; siblings, Richard (Pat) Odegaard of Fargo, N.D., and Gloria Jean (Richard) Schlechter of Sioux Falls, S.D.; niece, Pam (Wayne) Fehrenbach of Fargo, N.D.; nephews, Mark Odegaard of Fargo, N.D. and Jason Schlechter of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gordon Odegaard; sister, Mary Ann “Dolly” Odegaard; and nephew, Jon Schlechter.
