    Thief River Falls - Elsa Nomeland, 77, of Thief River Falls, and formerly of Grygla, died at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, with her loving family by her side.  
    Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 8,  at the Thief River Care Center Chapel, Thief River Falls, with Pastor George Davis officiating. Casket bearers included Bob Cwikla, Rick Olson, Rick Beito, Wayne Nomeland, Glen Anderson, Jerry Anderson and Arlo Olson. Honorary casket bearers included members of the Grygla VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Interment was held at St. Olaf Cemetery, Grygla.
    Elsa was born in Lancaster on Jan. 5, 1935, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Halasis) Leskiw. She went to school and grew up in Lancaster. She was baptized as a baby and confirmed later with her husband in the Lutheran faith at Grace Lutheran Church by Pastor Dale.
    Elsa was united in marriage to Jack Nomeland in Hallock, on Dec. 1, 1951.  They made their home in Grygla.
    Elsa was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Grygla VFW Ladies Auxiliary 3858. She enjoyed countryside drives with her husband, Jack, helping out at Senior Meals through the years, playing cards, Scrabble, and having tea or coffee with friends.  Elsa really loved time spent with family, her little dog, Tucker, and especially all of her grandchildren.  
    For over 40 years, Elsa worked at Peterson’s Café and later at Diamonds. Elsa was great to embroider and crochet for the Fall Bazaar.  During the wintertime, she kept busy quilting with the ladies at Grace Lutheran Church.  
    Elsa is survived by her children, Barbara Efteland (Ken Englund), Jack W. Nomeland, and Carol Bray (Martin Curnow); grandchildren, Wes and Clarence Smith, Shawna Thorpe (Special Friend, Stacey Olson), and Sara Bray; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Smith, Dustin and Kelsey Smith, Andrew Landin, Noel and Gunner Thorpe, and Augustine “AJ” Frease; great-great-grandchild, Madyson Landin; sister, Lottie Sistad; brothers-in-law, Roy Olsen, Donald Nomeland, Douglas (Delores) Nomeland; sister-in-law, Wanda (Gerald) Schuster; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
    Preceding her in death were her husband, Jack on June 24, 2000; her son, Richard on Aug. 10, 1995; her parents, Daniel and Mary Leskiw; brothers, Paul, Steve, Nick, and one in infancy; sisters, Catherine (Daniel) Soriano, Josephine (Willie) Anderson, Helen (Carl) Peterson, Dorothy (Jackie) Leskiw, Francis Olsen, and Anne (Kenneth) Anderson, brothers-in-law, Sheldon Nomeland and Stewart Sistad; sister-in-law, Joyce (Kenneth) Olson; nephews, Walter Anderson, Rodney Leskiw and Ronnie Leskiw; nieces, Arlene Anderson and Bonnie Cwikla; as well as many special relatives and friends.
