Red Lake Falls - Gary Pahlen Sr., 60, died Thursday Aug. 9, 2012 at his home in Red Lake Falls, surrounded by his loving family following a battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, Aug. 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, with Father Chuck Huck officiating. Casket bearers included Jay Pahlen, Gary Pahlen Jr, Tim Sigdahl, Keith Landman, Dusty Hanson, Chad Pahlen, Sam Pahlen, Ben Pahlen, Luke Pahlen, Andy Pahlen, Herman Schultz, Jay Guillemette, Anthony Radniecki and Darin Myhre. Honorary casket bearers included all of Gary's grandchildren. Interment was held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.
Gary Patrick Pahlen Sr. was born Feb. 25, 1952 in Crookston, the son of John and Lucille (Sewill) Pahlen. He was raised in the Euclid area and was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Euclid. He attended school in Crookston.
On May 27, 1972 Gary was united in marriage to Bonnie Ducharme at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. The couple made their home in Red Lake Falls. Gary had a career as a Superintendent at Vigen Construction Inc., consisting of over 40 years of employment. He was proud to have his two sons working alongside him.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He had a great sense of humor and had a passion for creating extraordinary contraptions. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, time with his dogs, but most of all he loved the time spent with family, friends and especially his grandkids.
Gary is survived by his wife Bonnie of Red Lake Falls; children Jay (Cindy) Pahlen of Red Lake Falls, Gary Jr. (Beckie) Pahlen of Red Lake Falls, Carissa (Tim) Sigdahl of Grand Forks, N.D., and Katrina (Keith) Landman of Grand Forks, N.D.; grandchildren Hunter, Riley, and Reese Pahlen, Luke, Holly, and Jacob Warva, Courtney and Caleb Pahlen, Chesney and Jaxson Sigdahl, Kellen, Kierstin, Tyson, Hudson and Ava Landman. Mother Lucille Pahlen of Red Lake Falls; siblings, Cis (Art) Klipping of Red Lake Falls, Randy (Jeanine) Pahlen of Red Lake Falls, Glenn Pahlen of Gentilly, Frank (Bonnie) Pahlen of Red Lake Falls, Laura (Curt) Beyer of Red Lake Falls, Linda (Keith Fuller) Hanson of Mentor, Val (Darin) Myhre of Red Lake Falls; sister-in-law, Renae (Steve) Philipp of Red Lake Falls; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father John Pahlen; brothers Donald, Theodore and Timothy Pahlen; father-in-law Jerome Ducharme; mother-in-law Dorothy Hagl; brother-in-laws, Dale Ducharme and Delbert Schultz; and nephew Darin Klipping.
