   Middle River - Joseph “Joe” Bukowski died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Sanford Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.  Wednesday, Aug. 1 (today) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Middle River, with Father Luis Buitron officiating.  Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
    Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday.
    Joseph Jerome “Joe” Bukowski was born on July 20, 1936, the son of Bruno and Clara (Statkiewicz) at home in Cedar Township, Marshall County. He grew up in the Middle River area and attended high school at Middle River High School.
   After high school, Joe worked on the family farm.  In 1960, Joe enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving in the Korean War. When he returned from the war he worked for Curtis Trucking and on the family farm.
    In June 1978, Joe met Mae Geer and the two became really good friends. For the next 34 years, they spent their time together traveling, visiting family and friends, going to the casino, and sharing their lives together.
    Every morning Joe enjoyed going to the Rex Café for his daily breakfast and coffee. He and his sidekick, Ervin Hendrickson spent a lot of time chumming around together creating havoc and lots of memories. He loved to play cards, hunt deer, and go ice fishing.  Joe was still helping on the farm that his nephew, Nathan operates.
    Joe is survived by his special friend, Mae Geer; brother, Henry (Jeanette) Bukowski; sister, Eleanore Rantanen; nephews and nieces, Joann Black, Patty Black, Allen Black, Cathy (Mike) Schenkey, Barb Rahn, Randy (Toni) Black, Cindy Black, Diane Walton, Russell (Sharon) Bukowski, Nathan (Mindy) Bukowski, Ann Marie (Dale) Lee, Dan (Becky) Rantanen, Marg (Gary) Toren, Rik (Lynn) Rantanen, Paula (Jean) Vandale; several great-nieces and nephews; best friend, Ervin Hendrickson; extended family which includes all of Mae’s family as well as many cousins, relatives and friends.
    Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters, Irene Bukowski and Christine Black and infant twin brother, Aloysie.
