Mesa, Ariz. - Robert G. Bredeson, 67, formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Ariz., after a year-long battle with cancer.
A celebration of life will be held at the Commemorative Air Force Museum Arizona Wing in Mesa, Ariz., on Saturday, July 28.
After high school in Thief River Falls, he attended Bemidji State University for a brief time and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1963. He graduated as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class and was assigned to the First Marine Division, serving two terms in Vietnam.
After his discharge, he returned to Thief River Falls to attend college. In 1969, he married Diane (Lofthus) and they moved to Fargo/Moorhead, where he worked and attended Moorhead State. A few years later, they came back to Thief River Falls to work with his father in the family store and, in 1987, they moved to Mesa, Ariz., along with their son Andy. There, he worked for 22 years in the grocery industry.
Robert is survived by his wife Diane of Mesa, Ariz.; son Andy of the U.S. Air Force; his mother Yvonne and brother Rolf Bredeson of Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Bredeson; and infant sister Kathleen.
