Phoenix, Ariz. - Phyllis Nellie Maijala, 92, formerly of Middle River, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, in Phoenix Ariz.
Private memorial services were held in Phoenix, Ariz., and Windom. Phyllis has been buried with her husband Tom Maijala in the Finnish Lutheran Cemetery in rural Middle River.
Phyllis Nellie Maijala was born June 7, 1920 in Donaldson (Kittson County) to Howard Denny and Nellie (Fealy) Inman.
She married William Arthur “Bill” Davis on December 24, 1939. They lived in Holt from 1939 until 1961. From 1959 to 1961, they owned and operated Davis Hartz Store in Holt. Phyllis also worked part-time in the Holt Post Office. In September 1961, they moved to Minneapolis, where Phyllis worked in the Minneapolis Post Office system. Bill also worked in the Post Office until his death in 1966.
About 1977, Phyllis reunited with a friend from high school, Thomas Maijala, a farmer from Middle River. Tom and Phyllis were married Aug. 19, 1978. Tom farmed but they shortened the winters by going for a few weeks to Phoenix, Ariz. In 1981, they moved full time to Phoenix, where they lived until Tom’s death in 1986.
Phyllis is survived by three children: Deanna (Ed) Lallum, Howard (Rosalee) Davis and Conley Davis. Additionally, she is survived by eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Bill Davis, Tom Maijala, and one daughter, LaVonne Blair. Private memorial services were held in Phoenix, Ariz., and Windom.
