    Plummer - John  Raymond “Ray” Rosten, 77, died Monday June 18, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
??Funeral services were held Saturday, June 23 at Salem Lutheran Church, Oklee, with Rev. Margaret Jacobus officiating. Casket bearers included Einar Kvasager, Karl Sorenson, Wesley Brinkman, Byron Rosten, Dennis Linder, Orrin Linder, Leslie Hofstad and Donald Fox. Honorary casket bearers included Raymond’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment was held at the Salem Church Cemetery.
     John Raymond “Ray”  Rosten was born Aug. 5, 1934 in Emardville Township, Red Lake County, near Plummer, son of the late John and Mabel (Bergum) Rosten. At a young age the family moved to a farm in Garnes Township, rural Plummer, where he lived and farmed his entire life, except for 1½ years in Milwaukee Wis., and a half-year in Minneapolis,  raising dairy cattle, sheep, pigs chickens and grain. Raymond was united in marriage to Irene Barsness on May 26, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee.
     The couple were Red Lake County Valley Farmer and Homemaker of 1996. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and bowling, he liked to play cards, spending a little time at the casino, reading Ag Week but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, served on the church board, and the school board.
     He is survived by his wife Irene on the farm, four children John Rosten of Plummer, Steve Rosten of Plummer, Sandra (Darrell) Tougas of Oklee, and Bradley (Amy) Rosten of NewPort Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Francis) Tougas, Jennifer (Pat) O’Neill, Tyler Tougas, Delanie (Robert) Merrill, Heath (Sarah) Rosten, Jillian, Liam, and Ava Rosten; eight great-grandchildren, Brady, Jacob, Olivia, Sophia, Micah, Peyton, Owen and Elianah. One brother-in-law, Jerry Rodenbo of Duluth; one aunt, Leah Friebohl of Crookston; along with several nieces and nephews.
     Ray was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Joyce Carlson, Delores Rodenbo; brother Paul Rosten; two infant brothers; sister-in-law, Gladys Rosten; and brother-in-law Burton Carlson.
