Thief River Falls - Gaileen Groslie, 68, died Sunday May 27, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, N.D.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 1, at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, with Rev. John Golv officiating. Casket bearers included Gaileen’s six nephews, Steve Solheim, Chris Solheim, Randy Johnson, Laurel Johnson, Brent Johnson and Steve Madison. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Gaileen Beth Solheim was born on Feb. 8, 1944 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of Olaf and Guida (Gilbertson) Solheim. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Gaileen attended Northrup Elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1962. Following graduation Gaileen attended Bemidji State University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1967. Gaileen taught elementary school in Minneapolis and Brainerd.
On June 28, 1969, Gaileen was united in marriage to Lyle Dennis Groslie at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls; and to this union, three children were born, Eric and the twins, Jill and Beth.
Gaileen was a very hard worker throughout her life. While her children were young, Gaileen stayed home with the kids. She then started to substitute teach in the elementary schools in Thief River Falls and began working at Solheim Furniture, which was founded by her parents. Gaileen eventually became a co-owner of Solheim Furniture with her brother, Vernon Solheim which they operated until 1993. In January of 1994, Gaileen went to work at Digi-Key in the Volume Sales Division where she worked until her retirement on June 5, 2009.
Gaileen was very family focused; she wanted to be with her children as much as possible and with her granddaughters whom she dearly adored. Gaileen enjoyed maintaining holiday traditions that she learned from her parents, and passing them on to her children. She loved spending time at the lake. In the early 1960s, Gaileen started spending time at Lake-of-the-Woods with her family; a tradition she carried on at her cabin at Maple Lake which she purchased in 1994. Gaileen was a fantastic cook. She also enjoyed baking, lefse making, knitting, boating and passing on her recipes to family and friends.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. When her children were younger, Gaileen served on many of the church boards and was a Stephens Minister. She enjoyed time with friends and her Supper Club. Gaileen maintained many lifelong friendships from childhood, school, college, church and work.
Survivors include her three loving children, Eric Groslie, Jill (Shayne) Anderson all of Thief River Falls, Beth (Kevin) Halme of Middle River; three grandchildren, Gracie Anderson, Seri and Brynn Halme; sister, Darleen (Manuel) Johnson of LaPorte, MN; brother, Vernon (Arden) Solheim of Thief River Falls; mother-in-law, Doris Groslie of Thief River Falls; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle in 2007; parents; and brother, Donald Solheim (3 years old).
