Phoenix, Ariz. - Jerry Furuseth 79, died on April 19, 2012 at the Serenity Hospice House in Phoenix, Ariz.
Celebration of Life will commence at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 9, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Ben Carlson and Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating.
Jerome Palmer Furuseth was born on Aug. 30, 1932, to Peder Furuseth and Johanna (Fladland) Furuseth, in Gully. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Jerry attended school in Thief River Falls and graduated from Lincoln H.S in 1950. He attended Valley City State University and Moorhead State University, where Jerry received his bachelor’s degree in education in 1960.
Jerry played football, basketball and tennis in College. He also attended U.N.D. Grand Forks and received his Master of Arts degree in administration. Jerry taught history, PE and coached in Mapleton, N.D. He was also a principal at Lake Bronson, Velva and Clarissa.
In 1967, he received his specialty degree from Mankato State and worked as a superintendent from 1967-1985, in Garden City, Waubun, Erskine and Northome. From 1986 to 1996, Jerry worked as a guidance counselor for Holy Trinity High School in Winstead, where he retired in 1996.
Jerry was united in marriage to Marlis M. Anderson of Thief River Falls on July 18, 1958 in Moorhead. Jerry loved fishing, hunting and camping with his family and spent many weekends at Lake of the Woods. He was a devoted husband and loved his children, grand children and friends. Jerry was also a great dancer.
Jerry attended St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mesa, Ariz.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Marlis Furuseth, Mesa, Ariz.; his sons: Joel (Shani) Furuseth, Barry (Ali) Furuseth, Rogers Ark., and Thor (Theresia) Furuseth, Gilbert, Ariz., and daughters: Lori (Sy) Luhman, Fargo, N.D., Nanci (Lester) Thomas, Indian Hills, Colo., and Kari (Luke) Reese, Shafer; Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters of Jerry, Evelyn Walsh, Seattle, Wash., Myrtle Stromberg, Thief River Falls, and Ethel (Jim) Walker, Bemidji; his sister-in-laws, Millie Furuseth, Thief River Falls, Sharn Bergsgaard, Crookston, Cleo Furuseth, Williston, N.D.; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Peder and Johanna; brothers: Paul, Leonard and Norman; sisters: Pearl Helgenset, Nobelle Garr and Nephew: Jon Furuseth.
