    Thief River Falls - Gerald E. Thompson, 93, died Saturday May 12, 2012 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls.
    A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 19 in the Imperial Room of the Ralph Engelstad Arena, Thief River Falls.
    Gerald Elliot Thompson was born June 17, 1918 in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada, the son of Carl Elwyn and Velma May (Lufkin) Thompson.  He was the second son of 13 children and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1939. Gerald’s parents farmed and he attended school in Canada through the eighth grade.
    On Nov. 18, 1940, Gerald was united in marriage to Delores Delraine Foy in International Falls. They started their married life in International Falls, and he worked at the Paul Laurence Construction Company.
    Gerald worked as a carpenter and in construction a majority of his life. He worked in Grand Forks, N.D., Aberdeen, S.D., Little Falls, and San Diego, Calif.
    In San Diego, after retiring, he took up massage therapy.    He moved to Yuma, Ariz., and then returned to Minnesota in December 1998. He moved to Thief River Falls in 2008.  
    Gerald was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He enjoyed gold prospecting, dune bugging and playing violin, banjo and harmonica.
    Gerald is survived by three children: Dale (Peggie) Thompson, Euclid, James (Lynn) Thompson, El Cajon, Calif., and Doreen (Alex) Rochells, Ramona, Calif.; grandchildren: Anthony (Stacey) Thompson, Crookston, Ryan Thompson, Grand Forks, N.D., Jurrell Thompson, Grand Forks, N.D., Sean Thompson, El Cajon, Calif., Christopher Thompson, El Cajon, Calif., Misty (Joshua) Kingsley, Milwaukee, Wis., Russel  Hill IV, Ramona,  Calif.; and great-grandchildren: Chelsea Thompson, Todd Thompson, Averi Thompson,  Zachariah Thompson and Jared Thompson; several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by wife Delores, daughter Evelyn Litzman; his parents, Carl and Velma Thompson; and 12 siblings: Lyle, Eva, Helen, Wayne, June, Doris, Leslie, Deane, Merle, Phyllis, Norman and Charles “Grant.”
