Franklin, Tenn. - Alma Hagen Svenpladsen, 96, of Franklin, Tenn., and Minneapolis, formerly of Grygla, died Saturday, March 17 at Belvedere Commons of Franklin, Tenn.
Alma was born April 19, 1915 in Maryville, N.D. to Arne O. Hagen and Kornelia (Ostrum) Hagen. The family moved to Grygla when Alma was one year old. She attended the Northwood’s School, a small country school north of Grygla until the eighth grade. After school, Alma stayed at home to help with the family chores on the farm.
Alma married Obert W. Svenpladsen, a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, on July 7, 1946. Together, they raised two sons, Lynn and Dale. Obert worked for Northwest Airlines for 30 years in Minneapolis and Seattle.
Alma was a housewife who also sold cosmetics for Beauty Counselor Cosmetics, where she received many awards for having top sales. Her hobbies included bowling, gardening, walking and bird watching.
She is survived by her children, Lynn (Posie) of Eden Prairie and Dale (Evelyn) of Franklin, Tenn.; grandchildren, Shane, Kristine and Alexandra; great-grandchildren McKenzie and Ryley; brothers, Otto (Hennie), Melvin and Norris, all of Grygla; two sisters, Miranda (Hagen) Skaaren of Bemidji, and Lila (Hagen) Holthusen of Thief River Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, Obert; her brother, Oscar; and sisters, Clara Boe, Benora Falk and Inga Ulla.
