Tekamah, Neb. - Marcella Jean Bishop, 69, of Tekamah, Neb., formerly of Roosevelt, died peacefully, with her family by her side at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Neb., after a nine-month courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31 at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah, with Rick Vest Officiating. Casket bearers included Gale Pfund, Jeff Schall, Gary Pike, Sterling, Grell, Joe Bishop and Ken Bishop. Honorary casket bearers included her grandsons and granddaughters: Jered Jacobsen, Nolan McGowan, Tyler McGowan, Jacob Pfund, Gavin Crissler, Dayton Nelson, Sterling Bishop, Jon Schall, Jordan Schall, Brandt Anderson, Jamie Anderson and Arlee Bishop. Interment will be held at a later date.
Marcella was born on October 9, 1942 to Harry and Erna (Henning) Scheef in Omaha, Neb. She attended Gretna Public Schools. She was baptized and confirmed at the Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gretna, Neb.
On Aug. 4, 1962, Marcella married Howard Bishop in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived in Gretna and ran the Gretna Hardware until they moved to Goodridge, in 1980. In 1989, they moved to Roosevelt, where they made their home until they moved to Tekamah in 2012.
Marcella and Howard welcomed three beautiful daughters and one son into their family: Marcy, Tammy, Tracy and Carroll.
She worked in the food industry for most of her adult life.
Marcella’s favorite pastime’s included boating, ice fishing, knitting and all sports.
Marcella is survived by her husband, Howard of Tekamah; daughters, Marcy (Gale) Pfund of Ashland, Neb., Tammy (Jeff) Schall of Tekamah, Tracy (Jason) Crissler of Hopkins; son, Carroll (Shannon) Bishop of Corcoran; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law, Gene (Sandra) Scheef of Burr, Neb., Marge (Scheef) Kosmatka of Minto, N.D.; sisters and brother-in-law, Joann Kennel of Gretna, Neb., Karen (LeRoy) Grell of Pender, Neb.; aunts, Marge Thibault Lincoln, Neb., Frieda Davis Calif., and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Gerri Deloske and Pat Pike, brother Jack Scheef, nieces Kim Kirchoff and Carol Kennel, and one nephew Ron Pike.
