Brigham City, Utah - Robert O. Markeson, 89, was welcomed into the arms of his loving wife and former northwest Minnesota resident Ethel on Monday, April 25, 2011.
Visitation for friends and family was held Thursday, April 28 at Myers Mortuary in Brigham City, Utah.
Robert was born March 24, 1922 in Superior, Wis., a son of Alvin and Ida Olsen Markeson. Bob met his sweetheart Ethel Lenore Ashland in High School and they were married in 1942.
He joined the Navy in 1942 and entered into boot camp in Virginia and was later stationed in California.
Bob returned from the service in 1945. After that he and his parents opened a grocery and deli in Ashland, Wis. After four years, Bob’s father developed cancer and they decided to sell the business and have Bob go to college. While in Ashland, he and Ethel had three children. Bob gradated with his chemical engineering degree and they then moved to Indiana. While there, they had one more child.
Bob and Ethel moved to Brigham City in 1959, when Bob began working at Thiokol, and worked there until 1984. Bob loved to play golf and had two holes in one. One at Eagle Mountain Golf Course and the other in Mazatlan, Mexico. He enjoyed golf, gambling, the Green Bay Packers and the Jazz.
Bob and Ethel spent ten winters in Mazatlan, Mexico.
He is survived by his children: Cathy Phipps, Fresno, Calif., Dr. John (Michelle) Markeson, Brigham City, Utah, Thomas (Diane) Markeson, Fresno, Calif., Michael (Alta) Markeson, Logan, Utah; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a brother, Richard Markeson, Bellfouche, S.D.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; two brothers: Clyde Markeson and Danny Markeson.
